Thurston House Inn           

About the Historic Thurston House Inn When Captain William Gaskill built the Pamlico Inn, he began a family tradition of innkeeping that has continued for seven generations.  Your hosts, Donna and her mother Annie can tell you how Annie's Great Granddad greeted guests who came to stay at his Inn on the Sound. Guest would arrive by  mailboat in the late 1800's and early 1900's up until the Old Pamlico Inn was destroyed in the 1944 storm. (See photo below).   

The Thurston House was constructed in the early 1920's and was the home of Ocracoke native guide Captain Tony Thurston Gaskill for over 75 years. In 1996, Capt. Thurston's Granddaughter, Marlene and her husband Randal Mathews renovated the house and opened the bed & breakfast. In 1999, they built a guest house adjacent to the Old Thurston Inn, adding 6 new rooms each with a private bath. Marlene's sister, Donna Boor purchased the inn in 2005 and runs it with the help of her mother, Annie Louise Gaskill Gaskins. The Thurston House Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
